Kidrobot’s Fall 2009 Collection is the first collection that was completely designed by their new designer, PJ Nagaya. The new range consists of more pieces for the “grown-ups” with smaller logos and little to no graphics on shirts with built-in tie, cardigans, button-ups and vests. But of course there’s always the fun stuff like their usual graphic t-shirts and hoodies in collaboration with different artists. The Fall handbag collection will be the last collection in partnership with Schifter + Partners, Kidrobot will be producing the collection on their own after. The apparel line is back with limited edition pieces, all items will showcase what number you have on the inside of the garment. There will also be artists hang tags on each items that was created in collaboration with an artist, giving you the info on who the artist is and their inspirations behind their designs. Keeping in mind about our poor economy now, Kidrobot lowered their price points for the Fall line. The new collection will be available at Kidrobot stores and kidrobot.com starting July. Joshua Prince aka Dust La Rock will be showcasing his artworks in a new mixed media exhibition, Best of the Beast, proudly presented by Red Stripe and Fool’s Gold. Known for his contemporary, illustrative design style, La Rock is a leading artist in today’s hybrid music culture. The much anticipated show will showcase a selection of original works, marking his first solo exhibition.
In this collection of work, Dust La Rock has created 18 original works that subvert traditional notions of the demonic and divine through metaphor, symbolism and comic sensibility. In his piece entitled “In His Service”, three dismembered pairs of feet represent different spiritual paths one can embark upon, while references throughout “The Golden Mean” and “As Above, So Below” blend together imagery from religion, alchemy, science and magick to simultaneously debunk and pay tribute to their mystery.
The exhibit will take place on Thursday, April 23rd, 8pm-12am at the Christopher Henry Gallery, 127 Elizabeth Street, formerly a church. All works will be for sale the night of the event.

While many brands are going through tough times during this low economic period and many may be considering or forced to close it’s doors. However there are brands that are still pushing on and see this time to put their strength into action.
Ask any respectable artist (read: one with a likely career in the industry) about a 360 record deal and they’ll tell you that it’s nothing short of a pact with the devil. For decades, labels have charged copious amounts of dollars for recording, manufacturing and distributing albums, but the show money was always their bread and butter. But according to Edgar Bronfman, CEO of Warner Music Group, the option to have the label in your pocket every turn of the way is no longer an option — it’s become mandatory.
Bronfman argued to a hostile crowd that it doesn’t make sense for labels to pour money into artist development when CD sales, their primary source of revenue, continue to decline (although he did say that digital sales now make up 20% of their revenue). Without other ways to make money from an artist, he said, they wouldn’t continue to promote artists.
What all this boils down to is record labels becoming increasingly disconsolate that they’re living in a world where artists are growing less dependent on them. Does a Drake or U-N-I need a record label to give away free music at one of their shows or online?
Let’s be real here.
Artists are accomplishing more and more without the security blanket of a major corporation so who’s going to feel pressured to split every slice of the pie with a company that can’t even promote their product to the fullest extent of their dollar?
Terry McBride explains the 360 deal in brief detail.
And as for artist development, Mr. Bronfman, I believe Curren$y said it best the other day:
When there’s no market for the bullshit, the labels will stop signing the bullshit, packaging the bullshit, shipping the bullshit…and filling the shelves with bullshit!
Take notes Mr. Major Record Label USA and act like you have the power to change things. Signing artists whose first hit will obviously be their only hit, got you in this mess to begin with. via:smokingsection

Although there has been what seems like endless controversy surrounding the Air Jordan Force Fusion (AJF) line, it seems like the coupling of Air Jordan signature models and the Air Force 1 is here to stay. The latest Air Jordan to be fused with the Nike Air Force 1 is the Air Jordan IV and here we have clear pictures of what the end result is going to look like. Photos have surfaced of a white/university blue AJFIV, staying pretty true to the original colors of the university blue Air Jordan IV that came out in 1989 and retroed a couple years back. The Air Jordan soloe is swapped out for an Air Force 1 soloe styled with a blue mid-sole covered by translucent plastic revealing a clear Nike Air bubble. These should be hitting retailers sometime later this year, but if you’re antsy you can head over to MarqueeSole.

The “Degrassi” actor-turned-Young Money affiliate kicked it with the radio kingpin, holding court on his career, talking about his latest mixtape So Far Gone, and traveling with Flex to Cam’ron’s first Manhattan party in three years. He might not have made history just yet during his brief appearance. But this kid fits in pretty fast.
Yet to hear him tell it, the Toronto native thought he’d have a hard time breaking into the game because of his not-too-rapper-like background. He raps, he sings, and his mixtape is a mix of mellow love tunes along with the braggadocious lyrical onslaughts. Now, the 20-something upstart has one of the biggest buzzes going for a new artist since Jeezy first emerged. … Any upstart rappers would be happy to have just Wayne on their side, but it looks like Drake has another hip-hop heavyweight in the mix too: Jay-Z. On Wednesday, Drake posted on his Twitter page “Young Angel and Young Hova.” The rapper confirmed that he was collaborating with Jay, on a Just Blaze-produced track, when he talked with Angie Martinez on New York’s Hot 97 on Thursday.
